NSW Country Garages

Petersen & Gjerstrup's motor garage in Cooma. From the left, the cars are Fiat, Vulcan, Fiat, and 15hp Talbot. The two Fiats were more than likely owned by Balmain Bros. of Cooma, who operated a fleet of Fiat service cars. The Talbot has a front number plate, which indicates that it's driver was visiting from Victoria. Front number plates were not fitted to cars in N.S.W. until the early 1920's.

This is Bartrop's Garage in Singleton. The car parked in the doorway appears to be a circa 1916 six-cylinder Buick, whilst the car on the right is a 25 hp Talbot of about 1911.

The Lismore premises of Mr C. Hope. Note the sign "Motor Springs A Specialty". Mr Hope's sales motto was "Hope Springs Eternal" I've so far been unable to identify the large and impressive car on the left, however the car on the right is a 1913 Ford which was probably purchased from the local Ford dealer Mr R.H. Trevan, who was the father of Bob Trevan, who is a member of our club. R.H. Trevan sold so many Model T's that in his latter years he claimed that It was he who was responsible for putting the "Liz" into Lismore.

H.E. Harrigan's motor garage in Wollongong, in about 1912. The car on the left is a 1911 Ford, whilst a note written on the back of the original print states that the over car is a Bayard. Harrigan Ford is today one of Wollongong's largest motor dealers.
